This is the working title of the project lead by Bernard Davies, which will offer our collective anecdotal antidote to the poisonous effects of the bureaucracy’s obsession with ‘number-crunching’. He has produced a set of briefing papers including prompts for workers and managers writing up stories.
Bernard suggests that the provisional aim is to have a first collection of ‘stories’ ready for dissemination by the autumn of 2010 – in time for the recall national conference and a revived Youth Work Week. However, depending on what is sent in and how quickly, individual ‘stories’ could be disseminated once they have been agreed – for example:
-
because it is current, demonstrating how policy is squeezing the kinds of practice we are defending; or
-
because it presents a particularly powerful story of impact; or
-
because it may encourage others to contribute.
Contributions can be sent in via:
-
the IDYW ‘Stories Forum on the web site;
-
The IDYW Facebook discussion page; or
-
if there are issues of confidentiality and/or anonymity to Bernard directly at davies@vip.solis.co.ukor to mailto:indefenceofyouthwork@gmail.com
We urge you to get involved in some way. At the simplest level it would be brilliant if you could download, copy and circulate the papers.
