Newcastle is taking a bashing. Now we hear that the National Trust is closing its Inner City Project housed in the Holy Jesus Hospital on City Road. Fascinatingly all reference to the Project, which began life in 1986, seems to have disappeared from the web site. The workers are under manners not to speak to outside sources. Thus we are grateful to Archeos for this eloquent commentary on the situation, which draws on memories of Octavia Hill and Beatrix Potter to ask, ‘Is the National Trust for everyone?’ His obvious anger is beautifully understated and and all the more powerful as a result.
