Thanks to Rachel Roberts of the Phoenix Education Trust for these links. Understandably you might be put off by the lack of reference to youth work in the info about the conference. Ironically, after contacting James, one of the organisers, it appears that youth workers are showing more interest than teachers. Thus this seems an excellent opportunity to underline the significance of youth work’s commitment to informal education as a distinctive democratic practice.
StudentVoice Conference 7th July
StudentVoice is an organisation run by students, for students to represent students. And, in this case we mean secondary school aged young people. This conference will be a student led event it will be StudentVoice’s first ever in Central London. Attendance is totally free, lunch will be provided and we have some money to offer some travel expenses for those who need financial support. This is an exciting opportunity for students to meet students from across the UK, discuss the future of education, and shape the future of StudentVoice. There will even be the opportunity to be elected to the StudentVoice National Executive!
It would be great to have some of you radical educators come along with some of your students. The programme also isn’t finalised yet, so you still have time to offer a workshop! You can find more information and register on the website https://studentvoice.co.uk/conference-2014 and just email James if you want to find out more! firstname.lastname@example.org
Democratic Education Directory
Phoenix has set up a Democratic Education Directory www.democraticeducation.co.uk
– it is for individuals, schools and organisations who support or practice democratic education. The idea is that there are more of us than we think – and – if we know where and who each other are – then we can start to come together and harness our people power. So, take a look at the site – and, if you want to then list yourself – if you want to find out more then email email@example.com
And, we’re trying to improve it, and decide what to do as our next steps – so, if you have a chance we’d love to hear your views whether you decide to sign up or not. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8BW7PKN
