HARINGEY AND LONDON CALLING!

Being a bit dim I couldn’t get the Save Haringey Youth Centres poster any bigger! However this marvellous group of young people refuses to lie down and is organising a protest next Thursday, February 24 at 6.30 p.m. outside the Civic Centre, Wood Green. On their Facebook they say:

It is time to show the people in charge we mean bizzzznessss! Over 500 people expected, bring your family, your neighbour, your chicken shop man! Be there!

The following day, Friday, February 25, the London and South-East IDYW group is holding a YOUTH WORK: WHAT WORKS event at the Salmon Youth Centre, Bermondsey,  SE16 4TE.

The organisers say:

You are welcome to come along to the ‘London and South East In Defence of Youth Work’ event, ‘Youth work: what works?’ Feel free to come alone or with young people, students, colleagues or volunteers.

The event is on Friday Feb 25th which is during half term for most people, from 11am – 2:30pm at Salmon Youth Centre in Bermondsey, near Bermondsey tube and London Bridge train station. A flyer is attached. If you can come, please email to let us know approximately how many people you will be bringing.

The event will include informal opportunities to share experiences of youth work in different organisations, get to know people from different areas, discuss what impact youth work has on people’s lives, and talk about good and bad things about youth work today and the effects of cuts. There will be places to share your youth work stories, a campaigning corner, practical activities, and discussion sessions for young people and for youth workers.

Young people are welcome to speak about their opinions and experiences of youth work, or show short films they have made about their youth groups or campaigns. We hope it will be a collaborative space – those who come will shape the event – and we are encouraging participants to bring food to share.

Hope to see you soon. Don’t forget to let us know if you plan to come on the 25th Feb. Feel free to forward this information to anybody who might be interested. Flyer below.
