London calling to the faraway towns. Now that war is declared and battle come down. [The Clash]
At the end of June the London/South-East region held a very positive meeting and the notes of their discussion are to be found below. Amongst a number of important proposals were:
ACTION POINT: Tania to ask Tony Taylor to identify a space on the website where workers / students from across the country can map the effects of the cuts to services and courses that will be taking place over the next few years. Tania to contribute quotes from the meeting to get the debate going. Everyone to contribute to the ongoing mapping exercise.
Mapping the Cuts : London, June
Find above the initial information from the London group about how cuts are beginning to effect services and courses in their region. I will post this as a new thread on the Forums page. Everyone across the country is encouraged to contribute their news on this thread either directly on the site or by sending Tony Taylor an e-mail. Obviously you may need to remain anonymous. As an example I’ve just heard that Sheffield Futures is having to reduce this year’s budget by 25% and has lost its contract to deliver Information, Advice and Guidance.
ACTION POINT: Those involved in youth worker higher education will meet on 1st September to look at finding funding for a project to bring academics and practitioners from a variety of organisations and institutions together for a series of seminars looking at issues in youth work in the difficult funding climate and and learning from each other. The seminars will be free or very cheap to attend.
Notes of London June regional meeting
The next London/SE regional meeting will be on Wednesday, September 8 from 1.00 – 3.00 p.m. Further details to follow.
For the latest noises from the CONDEMN coalition:
Local authority youth services are in need of a complete overhaul, the junior children’s minister has claimed.
