IN DEFENCE OF YOUTH WORK SEVENTH NATIONAL CONFERENCE

FRIDAY, APRIL 8, 2016 at the BURLEY LODGE CENTRE, LEEDS

‘RE-IMAGINING YOUTH WORK’

WE HOPE YOU WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND

Given the crisis facing youth work, both in terms of philosophy and provision, it’s not surprising that we are seeing an array of initiatives focused on what the future might hold. IDYW is no exception to this concern. Months ago we decided our national conference was going to think afresh about the challenges we face. In the light, though, of the wider situation we want to test our thoughts against other perspectives, national, regional and local. We believe a pluralist debate is essential. The danger is that we talk only to our own constituencies. Thus a rough outline of the conference is as follows:

SESSION ONE – NATIONAL PERSPECTIVES – drawing hopefully on the Youth Sector Briefing group, the Training Agencies Group and ChooseYouth

SESSION TWO – LOCAL and REGIONAL PERSPECTIVES – including the D2N2 Youth Work Alliance and Aspire Arts

SESSION THREE – AN IDYW  RE-IMAGINING PERSPECTIVE

SESSION FOUR – CAN WE UNITE OR ARE WE TOO DIVIDED? IS A SHARED VISION POSSIBLE?

The conference will open at 11.00 a.m. and close at 4.15 p.m.

We are finalising contributors at this moment and will publicise a more detailed programme plus flyer in the next week or so. In the meantime please spread the word

Throughout the day we will be breaking into small groups to facilitate a collective discussion.

As for lunch please bring your own as is our custom! Drinks will be available.

Conference fee is a minimum of £10 for the waged and £5 for students/ the unwaged.
