Brighton Campaign Strategy unfolds

Posting this update from Brighton to keep folk informed and as an aide memoire for other groups across the country fighting the cuts.

Update from campaign strategy meeting Friday 09 Dec
We had a very productive and encouraging meeting – thanks to all who came and to all who are supporting. We have 5 main groups below. Please comment on what you’d like to help with and someone from that group will be in touch.
FLYERS
Info flyers will include: FB group, petition, cuts details
14 December – 2 flyer designs will be uploaded – we’ll vote for the one we most want
14 December – let them know how many flyers you want
15 December – flyers will be printed!
We need people to distribute flyers – can you help?
COUNCIL
15 December, 3:30-6:30pm – demonstration at Brighton Town Hall – JOIN US!
Young peoples’ questions for the council will be collected
Young peoples’ attendance at council meetings will be arranged
A list of councillors for each area is being made so people can contact their councillors
Template letters for young people to write to councillors coming
Councillors will be invited to a meeting to discuss the proposed cuts
Paper petitions will be made available – signatures to be added to the change.org petition
Trustees to be recruited
VIDEO
16 December, 4-6pm – planning meeting (research, locations, production, edit, music)
Video to include: young people and projects across the city; how youth services have helped young people and their feelings about the cuts; and petition details
PROTEST MARCH
Proposed date & time – 19 January, 3-6pm – from Brighton station to Hove Town Hall
Flyers will be made to advertise
Police and schools will be contacted to discuss possible logistics
Assembly’s held in schools to promote
Banners and signs to be made across projects in the city – a group sign making day may be held
RAISING AWARENESS
We urgently need people to manage and be involved in this group
Visiting schools, colleges and universities
Emailing information to organisations
Distributing flyers, promoting youth engagement and getting petition signed
ALSO
Badges promoting the campaign are coming soon – we hope they’ll take off with young people
A calendar for the campaign will soon be available
NEXT MEETING: Friday 06 January 5-7pm (location TBC)
